Discussing Tension

Visceral Voice Podcast Series: 3 of 4

In the third of four episodes, Christine Schneider, host of the Visceral Voice Podcast, and I have a conversation about tension.

Singers report back tension, jaw tension, neck tension, and more. But it can be a tricky topic. The word tension doesn’t always describe what is happening, but rather a feeling that a singer is having that could be caused by a number of different things. Tension is necessary to remain upright, but anything in excess can be uncomfortable. Tightness can be felt when soft tissues feel taut at their short or long positions, so it’s always a good idea to talk with a professional before adding in a stretching routine.
