Full of hot air

“I can’t get enough air in to sing”

Inhalation and exhalation

Let’s chat about the concept of hyperinflation and how it affects musicians' access to air.

It can contribute to the following complaints:

1. You need more catch breaths than you used to and long phrases and sustained notes are hard.

2. You can’t get enough air in.

3. You have a lot of shoulder and neck tension that can not change no matter how much you’ve stretched.

4.  You experience back stiffness if you stand for too long.

5. You have a general feeling like making music feels harder than it used to… you miss the sense of ease you might have had in the past.

6. You feel exhausted and your body aches on the ride home.

7. You have been told you look stiff when you perform or people keep telling you to relax.

As we always end each episode, "Let me know what you need!"
